Unite with Victoria Against Violence - 16 Days of Activism

Victoria Against Violence is a 16-day, community-based, government supported education and awareness initiative about family and gender violence. The campaign is timed to coincide with the United Nations 16 Days of Activism against gendered violence.

1 in 3 women and girls experience violence in their lifetime.  It’s time to stand up as a Victorian and support #VICforWomen.

Violence affects too many families in Victoria, and we all have a role to play in preventing violence in our community. During the 16 Days of Activism, individuals, organisations and workplaces are being asked to be visible against violence by “going orange”. That means wearing orange, and “oranging” your home, neighbourhood, workplace, and sharing it using #OrangeDay.  As a bright and optimistic colour, orange is the UN designated (international) colour for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

There are a range of events happening over the 16 Days, including the illumination of iconic Melbourne buildings in orange, and the launch of the first–ever Victorian Gender Equality Strategy. The full event calendar can be found at www.vic.gov.au/victoriaagainstviolence
