The Commonwealth Department of Health has advised Indigo Shire Council that Alpine Health will deliver the Commonwealth Home Support Program in Indigo Shire from 1 July 2018. Alpine Health has formed a strategic alliance with Beechworth Health Service and relationships with Yackandandah Health and Indigo North Health to take on the CHSP program. Indigo Shire Council will continue to deliver these services until the end of June 2018.
“Alpine Health will deliver home support services for Indigo Shire residents aged over 65 years and over 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents starting on 1 July, 2018” Cr O’Connor said.
“From now until 1 July we will work with Alpine Health for a seamless handover of services which will include domestic assistance, meals on wheels, and personal care, among others.”
Mr Lyndon Seys, CEO of Alpine Health said, “We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Beechworth Health, Yackandandah Health, and Indigo North Health to provide community home care services to Indigo shire residents under the indigo@home banner. Services for current Indigo Shire community home care clients will continue with a focus on strengthening client independence.”
“This decision by the Commonwealth Department of Health will continue the local service for local people. It is important to say that this agreement will only be until 30th June 2020 at which time the Commonwealth will determine the future service delivery of the CHSP. indigo@home will strive to be a provider of choice for Indigo residents to ensure that it is well placed to continue support of our local community beyond June 2020,” Mr Seys said.
“Now that the Commonwealth process has been concluded we are advised by the State that the appointment of a service provider for residents aged under 65 years (and under 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents) will be known soon,” Cr O’Connor said.
“The local service providers and Indigo Shire Council will work closely together to support the change of service provider. The community will be consulted to help guide this process.”
Mr Seys noted that, “Although we only have a very small timeframe to implement these new arrangements, we are confident we will be able to provide services that respond to the needs of the Indigo Shire by the 1st of July 2018.
“We are commencing a recruitment program to fill the roles that are needed and this will provide local employment opportunities in the Indigo Shire.
“People interested in supporting older people in our community and have a flair for providing positive customer service and flexible thinking for meeting the needs of individual people are encouraged to express their interest in applying for a position.”
Clients and carers can continue to use the Indigo Shire number 1300 365 003 for service related queries until 30 June, 2018.
