Transport

There are a range of transport services to help the Alpine community get where they need to go. 

Community Transport

Community Transport is a not-for-profit and mobility support service provided in the community to assist transport disadvantaged residents get to where they need to go.

Ovens Valley Specialist Medical Transport Service

Bookings and Costs: 03 5721 3045 (Community Accessibility)

  • Available to eligible residents of the Upper and Lower Ovens Valley
  • Must be geographically isolated and transport disadvantaged
  • Unable to access other forms of transport
  • Restrictions may apply including destination and driver availability
  • Fees - Scheduled fee structure depending on KM’s
  • If over 100Km a VPTAS form must be completed
  • This program is provided through a partnership between Community Accessability and Alpine Health.
Kiewa Valley Community Car

   Bookings and Costs: 03 5721 3045 (Community Accessability)

  • Transport for Medical and Therapy appointments
  • Must be HACC eligible
  • Or a frail/aged person with a permanent or temporary disability and unable to use other transport
  • Be geographically isolated and be transport disadvantaged
  • Restrictions may apply including destination and driver availability
  • Fees - Scheduled fee structure depending on KM’s
  • If over 100Km a VPTAS form must be completed
  • This program is funded by HACC, with support from Alpine Shire and Alpine Health.

 

Red Cross Patient Transport Service

Bookings:  03 5721 8451 or [email protected]

  • Transport for Medical appointments to Melbourne, Wangaratta, Albury, and Benalla.
  • A referral from your doctor is needed
  • Volunteer drivers
  • Fee – Donation
  • This program is funded by Red Cross

Public Transport

Taxi

Taxi services in rural towns are an essential service. We encourage the community to use the Taxi services available to ensure the longevity of the services.

VLine

V/Line train services operate from Melbourne or Sydney to Wangaratta or Wodonga with connecting bus services to Myrtleford, Porepunkah, Bright, and Mt Beauty.

V/Line Wheelchair Accessible bus to Wangaratta - Thursdays only

Timetables: 03 5722 1843

Wheelchair accessible (it has a low floor and ramp) which scooters and wheelchairs can wheel straight up into the bus. Departs Bright at 10.05am and leaves Wangaratta at 2.20pm returning to Bright at 3.40pm. Stops at Porepunkah and Myrtleford along the way.  Bookings in advance are not required. 

For the Mt Beauty area, please call V/Line on 1800 800 007 for alternate arrangements for transport to Bright. Bookings in advance are essential.

Help with Transport Costs - VPTAS

The Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS) helps eligible Victorians and their approved escort(S) who have to travel 100 kilometres or more one way or an average of 500 kilometres a week for one or more weeks to see an approved medical specialist or are receiving specialist medical treatments, by subsidising their travel and accommodations costs.
