Like many businesses, the Bright Hospital Op Shop and Mt Beauty Hospital Op Shops have had many challenges keeping their doors open to the public for the past 18 months. Despite those challenges, they have managed to raise funds to allow the purchase of two diathermy machines for Alpine Health.

Diathermy machines are used for procedural services performed at Bright Hospital and Mt Beauty Hospital. Procedural services include general minor surgery and gastro intestinal endoscopy. Diathermy is the use of high frequency alternate polarity radio-wave electrical current to cut or coagulate tissue during surgery. It allows for precise incisions to be made with limited blood loss and are now used in nearly all surgical disciplines. These machine will allow Alpine Health to meet national standards and improve patient experiences within our facilities.

Alpine Health CEO, Nick Shaw said “we are incredibly fortunate to have the support of the Bright Hospital Op Shop and the Mt Beauty Hospital Op Shop to support us with meeting national standards and improving patient experiences within our facilities. The machines support the expansion of procedural services we can offer at Bright and Mt Beauty.”

The expansion of procedural services across Alpine Health forms part of the recently finalised 2021-2022 Alpine Health Corporate Plan which is available from the publications section of the Alpine Health website alpinehealth.org.au/about us/publications

Bright Health Services Manager, Sarah Fagan said ‘on behalf of Alpine Health I’d like to thank the Bright Hospital Op Shop and Mt Beauty Hospital Op Shop Committee Members and volunteers who so generously donate their time to help us improve our patient’s experiences within our hospitals.”
