What we do

Alpine Health supports all women from Alpine communities with antenatal (before birth) and postnatal (after birth) services, to help you on your pregnancy and parenting journey. 

Alpine Health is a Level 1 Service and is well prepared for fast unplanned births at each of our three Urgent Care sites in Bright, Myrtleford and Mt Beauty, but we do not provide planned birthing services.

Our small team of caring and skilled health professionals include local midwives and GP Obstetricians, who work together with you and your birthing hospital or other health services.

There is no direct cost to women for the services that we provide.

Accessible, local and personal care offered by Alpine midwives and GP Obstetrician’s.

We work with other health services in our region to provide a range of care options based on your health, your baby’s health and your choices.

Our FREE, face to face, small classes aim to increase confidence about labour, birth and early parenting. They are designed for pregnant women and their partners and/ or support persons to attend with plenty of time to ask questions and discuss what you want to know.

What to bring
  • Bring one set of baby clothes and a wrap for the first session (if you have some)
  • Please bring your dinner or snacks, microwave available.

 

Alpine Health registered midwives provide in-home postnatal care for mothers and babies during the week after discharge from hospital).

The number of visits depends on the needs of you and your baby.

This includes:

  • Monitoring the growth and well-being of babies 
  • Recovery of mothers and adjusting to parenthood
  • Advice on feeding
  • Referral to other health care providers for specialised care.
  • Newborn Screening and other blood tests

Birthing services refer Alpine mothers and babies directly to our service.  

Our midwives will connect you to the Maternal and Child Health Service. MCHS is a free service offered by The Alpine Shire, for children from birth to school age.

Hospitals refer directly to Alpine Health Maternity services.

How we help Families

Our experienced nursing staff can help with advice and support on your baby’s feeding, sleep and settling and your own emotional well-being.

Southern Consulting Rooms, Myrtleford Hospital, Myrtleford VIC 3737. Enter the Hospital campus via O’Donnell Avenue onto Myrtleford Hospital Road, then turn right into the Southern Consulting Rooms car park.

When

Appointments are available fortnightly on Wednesdays.

Cost

This is a free service for families with a Medicare card.
