Maternity & Newborn Services

Having a baby?

Alpine Health supports people in the Alpine communities with free pregnancy (before birth) and postnatal (after birth) services, to help you on your pregnancy and parenting journey. 

Our small team of caring and skilled health professionals include local midwives and GP Obstetricians, who work together with you and your birthing hospital.

Alpine Health is a Level 1 Service and is well prepared for fast unplanned births at each of our three Urgent Care sites in Bright, Myrtleford and Mt Beauty, but we do not provide planned birthing services.

Before your baby is born

Local, accessible care offered by Alpine Health midwives and our GP Obstetrician, in collaboration with the maternity teams at birthing hospitals Northeast Health Wangaratta and Albury Wodonga Health. 

Our face to face classes aim to increase confidence about labour, birth and early parenting. Classes include information on; pregnancy, labour, managing pain, birth, feeding and caring for your baby and parenting in the early weeks

  • Time: 1000-1600hrs, Saturday's
  • Where: Classes are held in Myrtleford, Bright and Mt Beauty.

After your baby is born

You will be referred to our care by your birthing service.

A local midwife will visit your home during the week following birth, to provide postnatal care for you and your baby. This can include feeding support and referral to other healthcare providers if required. The number of visits depends on the needs of you and your baby.

We recognised a need in our community for greater support after birth after domiciliary services have been completed. Our aim is to provide accessible, compassionate and evidence-based postnatal midwifery support focused on; 

  • Birth reflection and debrief conversations, including developing Trauma Informed Care Birth plans with women that have experienced birth trauma. This is suitable for women planning their next pregnancy or who are currently in their next pregnancy too.
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Postnatal recovery and wellbeing
  • Emotional adjustment after birth
  • Early parenting reassurance and guidance

Our midwife facilitator is an experienced and passionate midwife of 18 years, a qualified breastfeeding councilor with the Australian Breastfeeding Association and highly experienced in facilitating birth reflection and debrief conversations with women that have experienced birth trauma, residing in the Alpine Shire

Available every Wednesday by appointment at Bright Hospital.
