PACE supports World COPD day
Did you know that 1 in 7 Australians over the age of 40 have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)?
On World COPD Day, the Lung Foundation Australia was raising awareness of the symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and empowering people with COPD to take control of their condition ... because shortness of breath shouldn't stop anyone from living their dreams!
Hundreds of thousands of people across Australia have COPD and don’t know it. Often they’re struggling with daily symptoms and experience a lower quality of life as a result. With the right diagnosis, treatment and support, people with COPD can dramatically improve their quality of life.
Alpine Health’s PACE team are spreading the word locally, encouraging anyone with concerns about their lung health to speak with their doctor.
Do you:
- Have a new, persistent or changed cough?
- Cough up mucus, phlegm or blood?
- Get breathless more easily than others your age?
- Experience chest tightness or wheeze?
- Have frequent chest infections?
- Experience chest pain, fatigue or sudden weight loss?
Your lung health could be at risk if you answered yes to any of the above questions, particularly if you have smoked or have ever smoked, or worked in a job that exposes you to dust, gas or fumes.
Alpine Health’s PACE program operates weekly in Bright, Myrtleford and Mt Beauty to support people in the Alpine Shire with Lung and Heart conditions. Participants with COPD can benefit from the PACE program to gain a better understanding of their condition, prevent hospital admissions and to improve their quality of life.
