The Bernece Delany Volunteer Award commenced in 2014 and recognises an individual who exemplifies the generosity of volunteering and who selflessly gives their time and talent to benefit others in the Alpine community. The annual Bernece Delany Volunteer Award is a unique local opportunity to say 'thank you'.
The 2020 Bernece Delany Volunteer Award was jointly awarded to Terri & Peter Hopper in recognition of their volunteering contributions to the Alpine Community. Terri and Peter are well known for the volunteer work in the Bright community, having been active volunteers for over 20 years.
Peter has participated in the original community focus group discussions in 1999 that later evolved into our current Community and Health Advisory Groups (CHAG). Peter is a founding and continuing member of CHAG. He was also CHAG Chair for 10 years (2007-2017) and is currently Deputy Chair (2017 to present). He is the founding member of the Alpine Independent Aged Care Advocates since their inception in 2012 and is still an active member. Peter was awarded Victorian Senior of the Year in 2015 and continues to support refugee and migrant families in Bright. Peter is also an active member of Bright Historical Society, Probus and the Senior Citizens Clubs.
Terri also participated in the original community focus group discussions in 1999 that later evolved into our current Community and Health Advisory Groups. Terri is a founding and continuing member of CHAG in Bright. Terri is a founding member of the Alpine Independent Aged Care Advocates where she previously held the Chair position and is currently the Deputy Chair. Through the Alpine Advocates, Terri helped to establish Alpine Telechat to support socially isolated community members. She is also a previous member of Anglicare.
