Detection of COVID-19 fragments in Mt Beauty wastewater

The Victorian Department of Health (DHS) wastewater monitoring program has identified fragments of COVID-19 in Mount Beauty’s wastewater on the 1 February.
Anyone who lives in or has visited the Mt Beauty, Tawonga and Tawonga South area from 26 January to 1 February is urged to get tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) if they have any symptoms, however mild. Symptoms include: fever, chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss or change in sense of smell or taste.
There are currently no known positive cases of COVID-19 identified in the Mount Beauty or Alpine Shire Communities. However the detection of fragments in the water means that our local community needs to be on alert and an increase in testing to minimize transmission is required.
Alpine Health is liaising with the DHS and regional Public Health Units and has established increased testing capacity at Mount Beauty, Bright and Myrtleford sites.
