Mental Wellbeing Week 2023

4 May 2023

The Myrtleford Community are getting ready for Mental Wellbeing Week #Bekindtoyourmind, 13 - 19 May.

A collective group including Myrtleford Football Netball Club’s (MFNC) Wellbeing Team, Communities That Care Alpine (CTCA) auspice by Alpine Health, Marian College and Myrtleford P-12 College, have collaboratively coordinated this year’s schedule. This annual event is set to promote mental wellness through a series of events, guest speakers and school activities.

Beginning on Saturday May 13th, the MFNC #Bekindtoyourmind mental health round - Myrtleford Saints v’s Yarrawonga Pigeons - will kick off the week, with motivational guest speaker, Mitch McPherson presenting to a community luncheon, supported by major sponsor North East Civil Constructions. Mitch through his lived experience, started his charity SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTy! and became a motivational speaker, to promote mental health and prevention of suicide by normalising conversations and encouraging people to seek help. You can purchase your tickets for the Luncheon from the club on (03) 5752 1134 for $55 or via the TidyHQ link: This includes a 2-course lunch & Mitch’s presentation. Drinks at bar prices.

With the support of the Alpine Shire Council, Mitch will stay in town and present to students and teachers from Myrtleford P-12 College & Marian College on Monday and Tuesday 15 - 16 May at EMPAC.

Students at these colleges will also be provided with mental wellbeing sessions from Headspace, Alpine Health and NESAY in the days following.

CEO Alpine Health Nick Shaw said “Alpine Health is proud to be supporting the Myrtleford community across the week. It’s important to see a focus on prevention that aims to de-stigmatise mental health issues and provide a support base for people to have confidential conversations with access to other supports and programs that help to build skills that maintain healthy lives.”

Myrtleford FNC Wellbeing Team Chair John Pryor said “This is the second year we have combined with schools and community organisations to build understanding of good mental health and wellbeing. This should be a great week with the inclusion of high-quality wellbeing advocates Mitch McPherson & Dr Michael Carr-Gregg speaking. I encourage everyone to attend”.

NESAY, a community partner of the CTCA, will also be providing a series of #Bekindtoyourmind community seminars and free workshops for young people during the week including:

Lisa Bishop - Family Connections through Art - Tuesday 16 May 5.30pm Myrtleford Senior Citizens Centre
