That’s an #OrangeCard – Call it Out

Family violence is a national emergency in this state and across Australia. There is an urgent need for change.

All forms of violence are unacceptable, yet family violence is pervasive. It shatters lives, families and communities. Alpine Health and the Alpine Shire Council are this year calling on our community to commit to actions that change the culture that drives family violence. The Respect Victoria campaign coincides with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign.

This year Alpine Health and the Alpine Shire Council are partnering to deliver and coordinate a number of activities using the messages of the Respect Victoria campaign, and we encourage our community to promote and engage with this local campaign.

Orange is the universal colour representing a global movement to end violence against women. Inspired by the penalty system in soccer, the #OrangeCard is a social platform designed to give Victorians a way to speak up, speak out and become a genuine part of the solution to family violence. By calling out real life examples of gender inequality, marginalisation and discrimination with the #OrangeCard we can change the conversation.

Across the Alpine Shire you will see posters and “Call it out” Orange Cards.  We will have a strong presence on social media and encourage community to follow our pages and “like” or share the posts.  There are a number of activities which will be finalised in the next week where individuals can join with the message of the campaign.

Prevention means stopping violence before it starts, by changing the culture that allows it to happen. And doing that starts with respect. https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/community.html

We invite you and your business, club or community group to be a part of this local campaign.
