Myrtleford schools join the #Bekindtoyourmind Mental Wellbeing Initiative

The Myrtleford Football Netball Club (MFNC) Wellbeing team has joined forces with Myrtleford schools to develop a week-long event from July 9 – July 15.  The focus of the week is to promote mental wellness through a series of events, guest speakers and school activities

Alpine Health who auspice Communities That Care Alpine is the lead agency for the Local Drug Action Team and has partnered with schools to develop a comprehensive plan, through funding provided by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation Local Drug Action Team program.   By focusing on being mentally well we aim to reduce the incidence of drug and alcohol use through promoting healthy lifestyles and healthy bodies.  Myrtleford P-12 College, St Mary’s Primary School and Marian College are committed to supporting students, parents and teachers and anticipate this week will become an annual event on the schools’ calendars.

  • Beginning on Saturday July 9 the NECC #Bekindtoyourmind mental health round will kick off the week, with Wayne Schwass as the keynote speaker for the luncheon at the Ablett Pavilion.  Contact the club for more information on 5752 1134 or Email: [email protected]
  • Motivational speaker and mental health advocate, Luke S. Kennedy, (pictured) will be presenting to students and teachers on Monday and Tuesday 11-12 July, with a FREE community, carer and parent session wrapping up his presentations on Tuesday evening at EMAPC.  Please note age restrictions apply 16+years for the community event apply.  Luke delves into his story and discusses mental health issues.  Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/362801758827

Zlatko Pear – Principal Myrtleford P-12 College said “We are very excited to welcome Luke to our community.  He's one of the most sought after guest speakers in the country, and reports from other schools state that he leaves a huge impact on students and the school community.”

  • Primary students at Myrtleford P-12 and St Mary’s have activities scheduled throughout the week and practitioners from the Alpine Youth Support Services team will be delivering follow up activities for students in Year 7 – 10.

CEO Alpine Health Nick Shaw said “Alpine Health is proud to be supporting the Myrtleford community across the week.

It’s important to see a focus on prevention that aims to de-stigmatise mental health issues and provide a support base for people to have confidential conversations with access to other supports and programs that help to build skills that maintain healthy lives.
