We are delighted to celebrate the Year 9 student group from Myrtleford P-12 College, who have been recognised with the Alpine Shire Youth Award (12–16 years) for their outstanding contribution to our community.

This wonderful group of students has become an important part of life at Barwidgee Lodge (BWL) through the Intergenerational Program. With kindness, respect, and genuine care, they spend time with our residents—sharing stories, playing games, recording oral histories, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

Their visits bring joy and connection, brighten days, and help reduce feelings of loneliness for older members of our community. The students’ presence has created lasting bonds and a sense of belonging that mean so much to our residents and staff alike.

"It just lightens our week" said Marion, Barwidgee Lodge resident.

What makes this recognition even more special is the maturity and empathy these young people consistently show. They are building bridges between generations, living the values of compassion, inclusion, and active citizenship, and reminding us all of the power of community.

We couldn’t be prouder of this inspiring group of students. Their award is so well deserved, and we thank them for the joy and vibrancy they bring to Barwidgee Lodge and the wider Alpine community.
