Otto Schmalz Memorial Scholarship

The Otto R Schmalz Memorial Scholarship is an annual Education and Study Award for Alpine Health staff members. It has been established to commemorate the great contribution of Mr Otto Schmalz to Alpine Health and his commitment to welfare and development of Alpine Health staff.

About the Scholarship

The Otto R Schmalz Memorial Scholarship will provide successful applicants with a cash award equivalent in value to the cost of a full year HECS fees of a course of study at a recognised Australian University.

One scholarship will be awarded annually on a competitive basis.

The Scholarship will be available to Alpine Health staff members for courses of study at recognised universities, colleges of technical and further education, other recognised education facilities and study tours.

The proposals must be relevant to the services provided by Alpine Health and/or its future plans and development.

Eligibility

All permanent or contracted Alpine Health Staff who have worked for the organisation for an equivalent of one full-time year is eligible to apply. For example, this means that full-time staff members must have worked for a minimum of one year, and half-time staff members must have worked for two years. Time spent working as a casual staff member prior to taking up a permanent or contracted position shall be recognised for this purpose.

The following persons are not eligible to apply:

  • Chief Executive Officer;
  • Alpine Health staff who have not met the service length requirement;
  • Alpine Health staff members who have been recipients of the Otto R Schmalz Memorial Scholarship in the preceding five years; and
  • Alpine Health staff members who have been recipients of funding from Alpine Health for the education program or other studies proposed for the Otto R Schmalz Memorial Scholarship in the year of their application.
