We provide a range of integrated community and hospital based services and programs that focus on improving the health of our community. We do this through Health Promotion, Urgent Care & Acute Hospital services, Home Support services, and Residential Aged Care.

Breast Care Service

The McGrath IGA Breast Care Nurse provides clinical care, information and support to people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the Alpine Shire.

Cancer Wellness and Exercise Program

The free six week Cancer Wellness & Exercise program’ developed by the Cancer Council, provides people who have finished their cancer treatment with group exercise and education sessions each week to help you, and those around you, develop practical strategies for managing life now and moving beyond recovery to wellness.

Dialysis

Alpine Health provides a satellite dialysis service in Myrtleford for The Royal Melbourne Hospital Kidney Care Service allowing us to provide a local dialysis service for the Alpine Shire community. We can also provide a ‘holiday chair service’ for visiting patients to the Alpine Shire.

Transport

Community Accessibility provides volunteer drivers to transport community members to medical and social outings. Community Accessibility is involved with other community transport programs, which are sponsored through in-kind partnerships, between a varied number of community organisations.

The Central Hume office of Community Accessibility is based in Wangaratta.   They operate in the Upper and Lower Ovens Valleys and the Kiewa Valley of the Alpine Shire and utilise a fleet of 3 cars, which are based in Myrtleford, Mt Beauty and Bright.

Ovens Valley Specialist Medical Transport Service

Available to all residents of the Upper and Lower Ovens Valley

Bookings: 03 5721 3045

  • Must be geographically isolated
  • Transport disadvantage
  • Unable to access other forms of transport
  • Restrictions include destination and driver availability
  • Fee – a donation is requested

This program is provided through a partnership between Community Accessibility, Alpine Health and Gateway Health.

Kiewa Valley Community Car

  • Transport for Medical and Therapy appointments
  • Must be HACC eligible
  • Or a frail/aged person with a permanent or temporary disability and unable to use other transport
  • Be geographically isolated
  • Have transport disadvantage
  • Restrictions include destination and driver availability
  • Fee – a donation is required

This program is funded by HACC, with support from Alpine Shire and Alpine Health.

Taxi services in rural towns are critical, essential services for the life of the town. We encourage the community to use the Taxi services available to ensure the longevity of the services.

Vline - Bus/Train services

Vline train services are available from Melbourne or Sydney to Wangaratta with connecting bus services to Myrtleford, Porepunkah, Bright, Mt Beauty Victoria.

Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme -VPTAS

The Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS) subsidises travel and accommodation costs incurred by rural Victorians and an approved escort(s) who have no option but to travel more than 100 kilometres one way or an average of 500 kilometres a week for one or more weeks to receive approved medical specialist services or specialist dental treatment.
